OAU the Crème Della Crème in Nigeria

Obafemi Awolowo University is not a force to be reckoned with in Nigeria, as it has been nominated for the fifth and not the first time as the number one university in the country. The five years have been consecutive.

The position of OAU among other top Nigerian universities was reaffirmed on Aug. 20 2015. This news was made public after the 2015 University Web Ranking conducted by Cybermetrics Lab of Spain, an international institute which ranks universities in all continents.

Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the Public Relations Officer of OAU issued a statement which that stated that the university ranking body rated the research, curricular, academic and general administration of OAU as the best in Nigeria.

Olarewaju’s statement also stated that the ranking saw the university of Lagos and Ilorin being rated second and third respectively.

Prof. Bamitale Omole, the Vice Chancellor of OAU, could not put it any other way when he opined that this was the first time in history of higher learning in the country, where one institution would maintain its position as the first and the best in the country for more than four consecutive times.

Years of hard work and dedication to duty of the academic administrative and technical members of staff, according to Prof. Omole contributed to the feat; the university has had for years. He also added that the major contribution from the mentioned staff has placed the university far and above over more than 100 other universities in Nigeria.

Prof. Omole emphasized his topmost priority is to train and retrain his members of staff on a regular basis. According to him, he will not rest until OAU becomes the best university in Africa, and among the top 10 in the world.

Omole acknowledged that this could not happen by effort from only one end and he called upon the Federal Government to invest more funds into university education, which will see universities achieve more.

Omole also called upon the alumni of the university to aid in the institution’s overall development. The reason for this in his own words was, “so that OAU would grow more in leaps and bounds in the realization of the dreams of the founding fathers,” VC said.
